Below we have complied vacuum cleaner definitons. When reseraching
any product including all types of vacuums, its important
to become familiar with the terminology, Read throught the
various terms to better informed of central
vacuums, vacuum
cleaner parts, upright and canister
vacuum cleaners.
- A Filter
system used to clean dust particles as small as one micron
in size.
- HEPA stands
for High-Efficiency Particulate Air (filter). This type of
vacuum filter can remove 99.97% of all particles 0.3 microns
and larger. If you have allergies or asthma you should review
- A variable
speed on the motor to regulate the suction power. This is
nice feature if you will be frequently switching form different
rugs or to bare floors while you vacuum.
A Wand that adjusts in length in unrestricted increments for
comfort and versatility.
- Vacuums that
use no paper bags but require filters for cleaning that need
to be replaced. In many cases they usually end up more messy
then using paper bags.
Cog Belt
A permanent type belt with grooves that drive the brush in
the vacuum. The belts are attached to circuit breakers on
the motor that shut down the units if the belt jams. In most
cases cog belts never break, and in many models they are under
warrantee as well.
Twin Motor Uprights
A vacuum with 2 motors. The upper motor generates the suction
power and the lower motor drives the brush.
Tri-Force
This motor has 3 stages including one that air is forced through
a frontal duct to speed the air flow. Exclusively available
on Panasonic Performance Plus uprights. A great innovation.
Air Driven Power Brushes
A power brush that revolves off turbines powered by the suction
of the vacuum. Has no Electrical motor or wires. Not great
for people with heavy carpeting.
A revolving brush driven by an electrical motor, recommended
for anyone with rugs and carpet in their house.
Is a soft bristle brush for delicate hard floors with a nice
finish.
Automatic Height Adjustment
Head of vacuum will self adjust it’s head to floor and
carpet surfaces. (Like most of Sebo's automatic features,
they're height adjustment is the best)
Direct Connect Wand
The wand’s directly connect to the electric hose and
the electric powered brush without exposed wires. All electrical
components are built in to the system and are concealed.
Watts/Amps/Volts
All of these terms are not going to tell you the power of
the motor. A motor's fan can be larger and in multitude which
would change the power of the motor without changing the watts,
volts, or amps. Example: an upright with a 4 inch wide single
blade motor is less powerful then a Eureka canister with a
twin fan 6 inch motor, which are both less powerful then a
7 inch, 3 fan central vacuum. But they are all drawing 12
amps of power! Best bet is look at the Vacuum's CFM or waterlift.

Bypass Motor
A bypass motor is essential in the life time of a vacuum
cleaner. In most poor quality vacuum cleaners the dirt
passes through the motor, which doesn't hold up over time
cause all it really takes is something like a coin to
get sucked up and crack the motor's fan. And in most of
those models, they don't sell the replacement fans. With
a Bypass System, the dirt goes around the motor so you
can suck up whatever you want without having to worry
about breaking the fan in your vacuum.
