Review the Eureka Optima, other uprights just don't compare

The latest invention from Eureka helps homeowners lighten their cleaning loads, offering the same power and tools as a full-size upright vacuum cleaner but with half the weight. The new Eureka Optima lightweight upright ( Eureka 431A, 426A) also features the industry’s first ergonomic “O”-shaped handle for easy gripping and better control.

“Most uprights are heavy and difficult to use, and the lighter weight stick vacuums don’t have enough power or accessories to tackle tough cleaning jobs,” said Randy Sandlin, director of industrial design at Eureka. “The Eureka Optima vacuum cleaner is the best of both worlds, marrying performance with convenience.”

The introduction of Optima upright vacuum marks the latest of Eureka’s progressive design initiatives to improve and invent the next “a-ha” features in vacuums. Led by Sandlin, Eureka’s design team worked closely with ergonomic specialists to observe how people maneuver upright vacuums as well as to discuss how they vacuum and what they need. What Eureka found was that an upright vacuum’s traditional heft and linear-shaped handle made maneuvering uncomfortable and difficult. A classic Eureka moment occurred and a revolutionary idea was born – a one-of-a-kind circular handle that allows for a better grip and more natural movement.

The first-ever “O” handle on the Optima lets wrists and hands move naturally along the circle for continuous comfort – no more awkward twists, turns or refitting your grasp when pushing and pulling the vacuum. A soft, rubber liner provides a more cushioned grip. The handle also adjusts and locks into one of eight positions to accommodate different heights – which means less bending for tall users and more control for shorter users.

Other easy, features of the Optima vac

Optima from Eureka is an innovative solution that meets four of homeowners’ top vacuum “must-have” features: lightweight, bagless, easy to store and on-board tools. Optima’s compact 11-pound design weighs half that of heavy, 22-pound conventional uprights. And, while Optima sheds bulk, the vacuum doesn’t sacrifice performance – it is equipped with the standard 12-amp motor found in traditional uprights.

Other “makes cleaning easier” features include: a quick-release dust cup so there are no messy bags, the adjustable handle for compact storage, a motorized brushroll that converts from hard to soft floors with the simple flick of a switch, and an assortment of on-board cleaning accessories, including a seven-foot stretch hose, crevice wand and dusting brush. And, the Eureka Optima ( Eureka 431A, 426A) shows off these features in one of this year’s hottest colors – limelight green.
