Robot vacuum cleaners are all the rage, and why wouldn't they be? A robotic machine that can clean your home while you sit back and relax, what could be better! But new studies from a company called the GH Institute did some tests and apparently these robot vacs didn't do a complete floor cleaning. But the iRobot's Roomba Discovery 4210 was great getting to those hard to reach areas such as under couches and tables but it didn't do a thorough cleaning like a regular upright vacuum cleaner would have done.
From the tests that GH Institute did the Roomba 4210 spend 60 minutes vacuuming an averaged sized room. Considering it would take a human maybe 25 minutes at the most, it does seem like a long time. Personally It wouldn't matter to me if the robot took 1 hour to clean the room, but the noise of 1 hour of vacuuming would drive me crazy. I guess I could leave the room for the hour that it took to vacuum.
They also tested the Electrolux Trilobite but it couldn't even fit underneath the sofa. The study doesn't mention how much room there is between the floor and the sofa but in reality it should be able to clean under all sofas if you ask me.
I haven't heard anything bad about robotic vacuums from any other sources, it's always smart to get both sides of the story before you make a decision. From the reviews I checked over at Epinions people seem to love the Irobot Roomba 4210, the 4100 and the Intelligent FloorVac. The Roomba ProElite has less favorable reviews with a 3 out of 5 stars from 23 consumers.
